Wow! What a journey I have just been on.
For the last ten days I have been travelling Europe on the inter rail collecting “culture snaps”.
You maybe wondering what I am on about, basically for my final project I decided I wanted to something exciting and have a little adventure. So I came up with the idea of travelling Europe and collecting untold stories in what I am calling Culture Snaps. Hereby rather than listening to tourist reviews and tour guides I would create Podcasts that reflect the culture of a certain place. My team mate Stefan and I then started planning our route around Europe and booked our tickets and set off on our trip on 10/02/2014.
I came up with some loose themes and ideas of what we would like to find and was over the moon to return back with lots of photos, videos and endless amounts of audio which we will edit down to 8 Podcasts under the name of Traveller’s Talk for our Final Project.
Our journey started in Birmingham where we caught the train to Dover and got on the ferry to Calais where we spent out first night. We then visited; Paris, Bern in Switzerland, Milan and Tuscany in Italy, then after a very very long train we arrived in Ljubljana in Slovenia, Prague in Czech Republic, Nuremberg and Frankfurt in Germany, and concluding with a three hour stop in Brussels before catching our final European train back to Calais.
The trip was a fantastic learning curve; enhancing my people skills as I approached strangers for stories, and my organisational skills to insure we didn’t loose any of our content and stuck to our route. Despite getting to see so many amazing places and meeting some very interesting people the trip was rather stressful due to time, as some countries we were unable to spend more than six hours at meaning unfortunately we would not see the “tourist attractions and sights” we may have wanted, however in light of this we did gain some great audio, which I cannot wait to share at out Final Year Exhibition!
