For those who know about Global Radio you will know that stations don’t mention their sister stations. So when for the last few weeks when Smooth has been talking about Heart who has been mentioning Capital who was referring to XFM it has just blown my mind a little.
Basically if you have been living in a hole without the radio you may not have heard but Global’s stations came together for the first time in aid of charity as they launched “Global’s Make Some Noise”. Locally the charity supports Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital, Acorns Hospice and FAB. As a broadcast centre we had a target of £25K meaning we had to put on a pretty massive event. So we did something awesome; Run For Home!
We asked teams of four to fundraise and in return we would drop them up to 100 miles away and ask them to get back to Birmingham without any cash. Now with any event you need promotion so my job was to get the Heart Angels to spread the word and get the public signing up. Some of our team even decided to run it themselves including my housemate Molly, so I of course I decided to help her by making a ridiculous #FakeSomeNoise video which in the end I ended up in more than one…
The day it self was LONG I worked 6am-10pm but boy was it worth it. I was in charge of the experiential area where we had all three brands Heart, Capital and Smooth with fun and games and cheeky massages for the public to enjoy.
Due to the sheer volume of work that was needed on the day and the lack of volunteers a lot of us had to help other teams. Which meant I ended up manning the social media from midday.
Now I don’t mean to brag (oh wait I do) I got #RunForHome trending!
Pretty safe to say I was left feeling pretty proud that day but also inspired…
Our Regional MD in the West Midlands (Anita) helped on the Saturday with the set up and was there the entire day on the Sunday. Going to show that people at the top of the company really deserve to be there and even get their hands dirty now!
Two weeks after Run For Home and yesterday we celebrated Global’s Make Some Noise day where there was charity auctions on air, charity cycles and we had our street teams out selling treats throughout the week for donations.
You’re probably thinking wow this is the longest babble of life can you just tell us how much you raised… Locally £55K Nationally £1.1Million which is amazing and truly does make you feel immensely proud to say you work for Global!
