The day I got my degree grade was in fact my second day at my first proper job!
It’s fair to say I was beyond excited, I had not only landed myself a job pretty quickly after university but it was in an office I was already familiar with, working in the radio industry, for a company which I love! Yes you guessed it I got a full time job at Global Radio in the Birmingham offices.
After filling out an application form, attending two interviews and screaming a lot I was starting my adult life you could say.
I have officially been working in my job role for a month now (despite a cheeky little holiday to Turkey) but I love it. I am still working shifts as a Heart Angel promoting the countries’ biggest commercial radio station at events, however I am branching out of my comfort zone and liaising with clients and learning a lot about marketing and promotions.
One of the main things I’ve learnt so far is how many people are involved in making great radio! You would not believe how many different job titles there are. The day I went to London for my global Induction, this became very apparent as the place is HUGE!! There are so many people working for different brands in what can only be described as one of the coolest offices ever. Global Radio HQ is decorated according to its brand and is the most inspiring and creative place I’ve ever been to! If you’re a radio geek like me, I recommend going down there for a visit as it’s like Lapland for radio people.
So yeah long story short I am currently working as Street Team Coordinator for Heart West Midlands, working alongside Marketing for the biggest Commercial Radio Company in the UK. It’s true I have a lot to learn about marketing and health and safety but to be working in radio fresh out of uni, I am literally buzzing and excited to work my way up the ladder to my dream jo!
What a cracking place to start eh?
